June/ July 2018
Wow! I can’t believe how quickly this year has flown, and we are now heading into our last half term of the academic year. We are so pleased with the progress the children have made and know that our school leavers will be ready to make that big step to school in September.
This half term the children have loved to find out about the Royal Wedding, and weddings of family and friends. We have discussed traditions, but also looked at the range of different kinds of weddings people may have. It has also enabled us to explore different family lifestyles and gain an understanding that every family is unique and very special.
The children have also enjoyed making castles – these have been made out of cardboard, large soft bricks and duplo. They have looked at photos of real castles to learn about the key features.
We have been very busy growing things at pre-school too! The children have watched the beans grow, can name parts of the bean (leaves; stalk; roots; bean) and know what the beans need to make them grow.
This morning Cadi brought in her Giant African Land Snail. The children were fascinated and so we will carry on with their interests next half term when we start off by looking at minibeasts.
The Royal Picnic:
A big thank you to all the parents and families
that managed to join us for our Royal Picnic.
The bunting waved, the music played and the
sun shone as we ate our picnics in our garden.
The children had made their own crowns and decorated crown biscuits for the occasion.
On Monday many of the children were excited to tell us how they had watched Prince Harry and Meghan get married!
Dad’s Reading Week: Monday 18th June – Friday 22ndJune from 9.15am – 9.45am
We would like to invite dads, grandads or other male family members into preschool to find a comfy spot and to read with the children. The Fatherhood Institute has shown that fathers (or male family members) reading with their children has a significant impact on a child’s academic achievement – and we would like to celebrate this at pre-school! If you have not had chance to sign up to this, then please send me an email or sign up to it in the entrance.
10th Anniversary Celebrations: Thursday 28th June - South Milford Pre-School Playgroup has been running for 10 years and to celebrate we would like to ask parents to join us in the park for some fun and games! Parents to meet at pre-school at 12.50pm(slightly earlier than in my previous email)to walk with the children to the park. We will be walking back to pre-school at 2pm. Please confirm if you are able to attend (and help walk the children to the park) as we will need enough parents to make this trip viable.
If your child does not attend on this afternoon, please feel free to meet us at the park at 1pm. Due to staff ratios, any extra children must come with an adult that is responsible for their child. Please let us know if you will be joining us!
South Milford School Fete: Saturday 14th July: 12pm- 4pm :
South Milford Pre-School will be running our usual “Lucky Jar” stall at the school fete. Please could we ask you to help us by donating lucky jarsfor our stall – you can fill them with sweets, toys, crayons, balloons, hair bobbles etc. for the children to win. We will put some examples of lucky jars are in the entrance hall. Please bring your lucky jars into pre-school from the week beginning 2ndJuly (we would need approx. 2 jars per child for the stall to be a success!)
If any parents would like to help run the stall then please let me know. Plus if you have been saving empty jars and have any spares could you let us have those as soon as possible. Thank you!
Leavers Sports Party:
We will be having a Leavers sports party on Tuesday 17thJuly for the children who will be leaving us to go to school in September. We will be having a party lunch (please sign up to bring something to share nearer the time) and then would like to invite all parents/ carers to join us in some sports races at 1.15pm. If your child does not attend on this day (and is an older child) and would like to join us, please just let us know.
15 hour universal funding/ extended 30 hour funding:
All parents of 3 and 4 year olds are entitled to 15 hours universal funding for free childcare. This 15 hour funding is claimed for through pre-school. If you meet certain eligibility criteria you may be able to claim the extended 15 hour funding (30 hours in total). If you are eligible for this for the Autumn Term 2018, you will need to apply now through HMRC.
Parents who have already applied for the 30 hour funding, please remember to reconfirm every 3 months!
For further information regarding this and how to apply for the extra funding, please visit https://www.childcarechoices.gov.uk/. You will then be given a code, which I will need if I am claiming the extended entitlement for you.
To find out more about tax free childcare, you can visit the same website.
Learning Journeys will be available at the end of each session during the week beginning 25th June. You can also ask to see your child’s Learning Journey at any time. Can we please request though, that if you take your Learning Journey home, that you return it the following session so we are able to keep it updated!
For the children who will be leaving us and going to South Milford School, your child’s Learning Journey will be given to the Reception Class Teacher and then will be returned to you at October half-term. For all other children, we will give you your child’s Learning Journey and recommend that you pass it on to their new teacher to look at. We will also send out Transition Forms for children attending other schools in the area.
Thank you for your bags2school donations. We received a cheque for £48.80 which will be used to buy some small world play for pre-school.
Please remember to slap that suncream on your child every morning! And don’t forget a sunhat!! We will only be putting suncream on in the afternoons for the children that attend all day.
Also can we please ask for all children to still bring jackets, hoodies or coats to pre-school. Our weather is very unpredictable, and it can also be quite cool in the hall even when it is sunny outside!
Just a reminder to put any siblings names on our waiting list for the future! We don’t want anyone to miss out on a place!
Yorkshire 3 Peaks:
On June 23rd a group of 17 ladies from the village (with support crew) are challenging themselves to walk the 3 Peaks in aid of Yorkshire Cancer Research. Rachael Linley and Sue Thirsk will be part of this team (although Sue, due to hip injuries, will only be walking the final peak!). If you would like to find out more about our story please visit Just givinghttps://www.justgiving.com/Mags-Fuller3?utm_source=Sharethis&utm_medium=fundraisingpage&utm_content=Mags-Fuller3&utm_campaign=pfp-email&utm_term=9nAAaryXg., or if you would like to make a donation to the cause we will leave a pot out week beginning June 18th. Thank you!
Term Dates:We break up for the summer holidays on Friday 20thJuly, and return on Monday 3rdSeptember. Further information regarding holidays can be found on our website: www.pre-school.me.uk
Thank you for your continued support of South Milford Pre-School.
April/ May 2018
This half term the children have loved our café role-play – they have served us lots of sandwiches and cups of tea! They have taken on the roles of different people in the café (e.g. waiter/ waitress/ chef/ customer) and have practised their mark-making skills whilst taking orders!
The children have also spent time reading traditional tales! They have acted out lots of them inside and outside: Goldilocks; Jack and the Beanstalk; The 3 Billy Goats Gruff were among our favourites!
This term, we are hoping the weather will start to improve, and we can learn about Spring! We will be setting up our Garden Role Play again outdoors as this was really popular last year, so if you have any donations of seeds; plant pots; compost or anything left over in your shed/ garage then we would be grateful!
We also have a Royal Wedding on the horizon! We will be celebrating the event at pre-school with lots of activities linked to weddings and Royalty!
Stay and Play sessions:
A big thank you to all the parents who stayed for the Stay and Play sessions last half term. We hope you managed to see what it was like for your child in the setting and to see what happens on a daily basis at pre-school! As practitioners, we have evaluated how these Stay and Play sessions went and how they benefited the children. We would also like to hear your views so that we know if we need to make any changes for next time! I have attached a quick feedback form and would really appreciate your views!
Time for a spring clearout? Please save all your unwanted items (clothes, bags, belts, hats, shoes, soft toys) for our Bags2School collection onWednesday 16thMay. This scheme helps us earn money for new resources at pre-school. We will send out bags at the beginning of May, and you can bring your donations to the hall from Tuesday 8thMay. Thank you for your support!
FOSM’s Magical Book Themed Treasure Hunt: Sunday
FOSM’s (Friends of South Milford School) are holding a village treasure hunt for the children in the village. The theme will be linked to Magical Books. It starts at 2pm at South Milford Primary School and the hunt will take you on a tour around the village, finishing at The WI hall. It costs £1.50 per person or £5 per family (under 3’s are free). At the WI there will be Face Painting, Refreshments, Music, Hot Dog stall and Children’s Games. Look for posters around the village for further information soon! Everyone welcome, and it is a lovely family event.
South Milford School Fete: Saturday 14thJuly:
South Milford Pre-School will be running the Lucky Jar stall once again at the school fete. Please could you help us over the coming months by saving all your empty jars! We will need these to fill as prizes for the stall. Thank you!
We are hoping that the weather might start getting warmer soon! On sunny days, can you please ensure your child comes to pre-school with suncreamalready on. We will not be putting suncream on the children in the mornings. We will reapply suncream, when necessary, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. We will use our own suncream (if you your child requires their own suncream then please let us know). Please also provide your child with a sunhat (named). We will ensure that children have access to water at all times and are encouraged to drink regularly.
Can you also please continue to send your children with spare clothes; we will be doing lots of messy and wet play outdoors in the summer term!
A big thank you for your snack donations! Please continue to bring these in for us – you can either give a weekly donation (we suggest 50p per session) or bring in snacks to share e.g. fruit, vegetables, bread sticks, crackers.

Feb/ March 2018
Wow! It has been a very short half term but a very busy one! The children have learnt lots about different kinds of vehicles, have enjoyed making big box craft trains, cars and boats, and using them for lots of imaginative role-play. The children’s own interests led us into developing a hospital role-play, whereby the children have learnt about different parts of the body, including their skeleton and internal organs, and have learnt about the people who help us when we go to hospital. They have spent time wrapping each other up in bandages and learning how to make someone better.
The children’s sharing at pre-school has improved immensely and we now hear the children asking each other politely for a turn – we are very proud of them!
Next half term, we will start by learning about Chinese New Year – looking at traditions and tasting Chinese food. We will also be continuing the children’s interests in their bodies, by focusing on the food they eat and which food is good for us! I wonder where else the children’s learning will take us….
****Pre-School Term Dates 1stApril 2018 – 31stMarch 2019****:
I have attached a copy of the term dates from 1stApril 2018 – 31stMarch 2019. Please notethat we do not know our funded weeks for Summer Term 2019 and so therefore are unable to set our Easter holiday 2019 yet (it may be longer than the schools Easter break). We currently only know our dates up until 31stMarch 2019.
Please note that our Easter break 2018 is for 3 weeks. This is due to the fact that we are only funded for 12 weeks in the summer term 2018.
We therefore close for Easter on Thursday 29thMarch and reopen on Monday 23rdApril 2018 (a week later than schools.
15 hour universal funding/ extended 30 hour funding:
To new parents of children who have turned 3 this term:
Universal funding:All parents of 3 and 4 year olds are entitled to 15 hours universal funding for free childcare. If you are claiming this funding you will just need to fill out the parental declaration (attached) and return to pre-school with a copy of your child’s birth certificate. I will then claim the funding on your behalf.
Extended funding:If you meet certain eligibility criteria you may be able to claim the extended 15 hour funding (30 hours in total). If you are eligible for this for the Summer Term 2018, you will need to apply now.
For further information regarding this and how to apply for the extra funding, please visit https://www.childcarechoices.gov.uk/. You will also need to fill out the parental declaration (attached) and return to pre-school with a copy of your child’s birth certificate. Please note I will need your extended funding code and parental information on the form in order to verify the code.
If you have previously claimed funding, you will not need to fill out a declaration again – this is just for new parents.
30 hour funding reconfirmation
BIG REMINDER: Every 3 months, parents are required to reconfirm their eligibility for the 30 hour funding. If your details have not changed, it should be a quick tick in a box in your childcare service account to confirm your details are still the same. You should receive a reminder to reconfirm, but this may be on your childcare portal only, so please check your account regularly! Alternatively, HMRC may send you an email reminder with the title “Tax-Free Childcare”. If you miss the reconfirmation deadline, you will receive a message saying that you are no longer eligible for the 30 hours and you will fall into your “grace period”. To take up a place from April, you will need to reconfirm eligibility through your childcare service account, even if you have missed the deadline.
World Book Day: Thursday 1stMarch:We would like to celebrate World Book Day by asking the children to bring in their favourite book from home to share!
Please don’t forget to inform us if you move address, change your telephone number or any other details change from your registration forms.

We love to hear about your child’s achievements and interests at home – please take the time to fill out a star for us for their Learning Journey. (Star Moments are attached with this email)
The stars are read out at group time – the children are so proud!

Jan/ Feb 2018
Happy New Year!! We all hope you had a wonderful Christmas! A big thank you for all the cards and gifts we received – it was very kind of you all.
The children had a great last half term. They have enjoyed spending time outside: in our outdoor kitchen area (making cakes with conkers, cones, stones, leaves); building houses with bricks; and jumping on numbers. They spent time learning about emotions and have been working on taking turns and sharing.
This term we will bring out the well-loved babies again! We wondered if there would be a willing parent to bring in a real life baby for us so that we can talk about how they feed, bath and sleep? The children are also really interested in learning about vehicles. We will explore different kinds of vehicles e.g. fire engines; police cars; boats; aeroplanes. We will look at how they travel and how they can help us, linking it to people who help us in our community.
Key Person Consultations
If you would like to meet up with your child’s key worker then please sign up for a time (list on the clipboard in the entrance hall). During this meeting you will have an opportunity to look at your child’s learning journey and discuss their learning and development. Additionally you can request to see their learning journeys at any time.
If you are a working parent who is not able to make a meeting in the day, but would like a telephone consultation, then please ask.
As the weather continues to be cold and wet, please ensure your child has gloves, scarf and hat for playing outdoors. Naming these items would also help us greatly! Also the hall can get a little cold when the door is open, so please ensure your child has a jumper/cardigan/ fleece for indoors too! If wearing wellington boots, please bring a change of indoor shoes/ slippers and change your boots in the entrance hall – thank you!
Thank you to everyone who brought in clothes for our bags2school. We received a cheque for £88.80. We will use this to buy a new library book trolley. We have also had a kind donation given to us by one of last year’s parents – we will let you know what we decide to use this money for!
Lunchclub/ pm spaces:
We have a couple of spaces available on a Monday and Friday lunchclub and on a Thursday afternoon. These spaces are available for 3 year olds only due to staff ratios. Please let me know if you would like any of these sessions – they are available on a first come, first served basis.
Big congratulations to all the new babies that have recently been born! We have had lots of new brothers and sisters! I know it is early, but just a reminder to put your child’s name down on our waiting list! Just drop me an email or text with your child’s full name and date of birth.
Just a reminder of our Health and Safety Policy: Any child that has sickness or diarrhoea must remain away from pre-school for atleast 48 hours since their last bout of illness.
Healthy Packed Lunches
In order for pre-school to support healthy eating guidelines from “Action for Children”, I have attached their most recent leaflet with practical guidance on packed lunches for parents and carers.
***Important: Term Dates:***

Nov/ Dec 2017
Wow! What a busy half term we have had. Well done to all the children that are new to us this term. They have settled really well and have learnt many of the pre-school rules and routines.
Music, instruments and “Moana” took over at pre-school this last half term! The children can now identify lots of different instruments and identify the different sounds they make. They have enjoyed dressing up, dancing and making up shows for others to watch! We have been lucky enough to have some money to invest in new instruments for both indoors and outdoors, including a musical mat!
This half-term our focus will start around a role-play shop...........We will also have lots of activities linked to Halloween, Bonfire Night and, of course, Christmas.
Our learning will also be centred around the children’s interests, where we let them take the lead on what they want to learn about!
BONFIRE NIGHT!!!: Saturday 11th November:
Tickets are on sale at pre-school - £7 each (children aged 5 and under are free). Please note that it is a “Ticket Only” event this year. There is a mini firework display at 6.45 pm which may appeal to the younger children!
Thank you for all the parents that have volunteered to help build the bonfire/ stalls (9am on the Saturday morning please) and to the parents who have volunteered for the big clean up on Sunday (from 8am). We really appreciate your help!
Children in Need:
We would like to support Children In Need by asking the children to come to pre-school dressed in something spotty (or spotty faces/ bags/ accessories) on Friday 17th November. We will be asking for a £1 donation to Children In Need. Please see attached flyer for ideas!
We would also like to invite parents to join us for the lunchclub on this day (if your child attends the lunchclub!). Lunchclub starts at 11.45 am and please bring your lunch! Let us know if you can join us!
Bags To School:
We hope you have all received your bags now for our Bags2School collection! This collection will help us to raise money for pre-school to buy new resources, like the instruments, for your children. Bags2school will be collecting from us on Monday 13th November. If you have extra unwanted clothes, linen, shoes etc then just bag it up in any bag please or extra bags are available in our entrance hall! If you would like to drop the bags in the week before then we can keep them in the hall. Thank you for your support.
15 hour universal funding/ extended 30 hour funding:
To new parents of children who have turned 3 this term:
All parents of 3 and 4 year olds are entitled to 15 hours universal funding for free childcare.
If you meet certain eligibility criteria you may be able to claim the extended 15 hour funding (30 hours in total). If you are eligible for this for the Spring Term 2017, you will need to apply soon. Please be aware of applying too early: the code will start straight away, even if you cannot claim until January, and only lasts 3 months before you have to reconfirm! My advice would be to apply in November.
For further information regarding this and how to apply for the extra funding, please visit https://www.childcarechoices.gov.uk/.
Whether you are claiming the 15 hour universal funding or the 30 hour extended, you will to fill out a parental declaration (attached to the email) and return to pre-school.
If you miss the reconfirmation deadline, you will receive a message saying that your are no longer eligible for the 30 hours and you will fall into your “grace period”. To take up a place in January, you will need to reconfirm eligibility through your childcare service account, even if you have missed the deadline.
Last summer we did a Pre-school Waddle and raised lots of money to improve our garden area! We have now purchased and installed an artificial grass path across the garden. This enables us to get across the garden in all weathers in order to use the upstairs garden area safely. We are really pleased with this path as it is working well in the rainy, slippy, muddy weather!
We have also purchased some large wood panelling and art equipment and the High School are now in the process of designing and painting a new mural for us! We can’t wait to see the results!
Thank you to all the parents/ carers that have signed up to help us raise more money for pre-school!
If you haven’t yet signed up, then please do by visiting: https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/southmilfordpre-school/
Every time you shop online, go to easyfundraising first to find the site you want and start shopping. After you’ve checked out, that retailer will make a donation to your good cause for no extra cost whatsoever!
Learning Journeys will be put out at the end of pre-school during the week of 20th – 24th Nov. Please can we request that if you do wish to take your child’s Learning Journey home that you bring it back the following session. Can we also encourage you to write in your child’s Learning Journeys, telling us about how you feel they have settled, their interests and what they have been learning to do at home. Also do not hesitate to talk to your child’s keyworker regarding their learning at pre-school.
Thank you for all the stars that you have sent in telling us about your child’s interests, learning and achievements at home – we read them all out to the group and praise your child for their achievements. I have attached some blank stars with this email for your use, but they are also available from pre-school too.
Visits to South Milford School:
We have very strong links with South Milford Primary School and will be taking small groups of our older children to visit the school starting from this half-term. A separate letter will be emailed to the parents of children involved later this term.
Starting school September 2018?
South Milford Community Primary School would like to invite you to an Open Evening on Wednesday 15th November at 6pm. It will give you chance to see the school, meet the staff and see what they have on offer!
As the weather gets colder, please ensure your child comes to pre-school with appropriate outdoor clothing, including hats and scarves in cold weather (named) as we will be venturing outside in all weathers. If wearing wellies, can we please ask you to change into indoor footwear in the entrance hall.
If we could also ask every child to bring in a spare change of clothing too – as you know we like to get wet and messy!
Christmas: Dates for the diary:
At pre-school, we have difficulty accessing the hall at extra times, therefore we will be having a Christmas party for our older children only this year:
Older children’s party (school intake 2018): Mon 18th Dec 11.45 – 1.45pm. All older children will be invited.
An invitation letter will be sent out nearer the time with further information.
During the final week of term, we will be inviting parents to stay for 5 minutes at the end of the afternoon sessions: Tues (19th), Weds (20th) and Thurs (21st). The children will sing a different Christmas song on each of these days for you!
Christmas Activity Morning: Wednesday 13th December 9.15 – 10.30 am: We would like to invite parents and carers of children who attend a Wednesday morning session to join us in a Christmas Activity morning at pre-school. We will have lots of festive activities going on that parents can join in with! Please let us know if you are able to make it!
Congratulations to all the new brothers and sisters that have been born this half term!
Just a reminder to ensure any siblings are put on our waiting lists as soon as possible. We wouldn’t like any of the siblings to miss out on an opportunity at pre-school and our demand for places is increasing.
Just a reminder that we break up for Christmas on Friday 22nd December. We start again at pre-school on Monday 8th January.
Sue Thirsk, and the pre-school team
Sept/ Oct 2017
A big welcome back to everyone after our summer break! We look forwards to the new children starting with us this half term!
Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED) will be our main focus this term: supporting the children to develop a sense of belonging; to make new friends and develop their relationships with the other children; to understand our rules and routines; to learn to be independent (washing our hands; putting our coats/ shoes on ourselves; tidying up).
We know from our pre-visits last half term that babies, dinosaurs, vehicles and playdoh were popular with the new children coming to visit and so these will be available indoors and outside. We will also be following the interests of the children and see where their learning takes us!!
Just to keep you up to date with who we are and when we work!
Mrs Sue Thirsk – Pre-School Manager - Qualified Teacher/ First Aid Trained – All sessions except Wednesday afternoons and some Thursdays.
Miss Rachael Linley–Pre-school Deputy Manager – NNEB / First Aid Trained – All sessions
Mrs Kath Oeppen– Pre-school Practitioner – NCFE Level 3/ First Aid Trained– All sessions except Wednesdays.
Mrs Caroline Thompson – Pre-School Practitioner – CACHE Level 3 / First Aid Trained - All sessions except Tuesdays.
Mrs Jane Strong – Pre-School Practitioner - CACHE Level 3/ First Aid Trained – All sessions except Mondays and Tuesday afternoons.
We are also lucky to have 2 regular volunteers starting at pre-school from September: Mrs Kerri Fossett and Mrs Jenny Greatrex. We would like to welcome them both into our team.
Every child at pre-school is assigned with a Key Worker. Key workers can give you a first point of contact at the pre-school in order to find out information about your child/ the setting. Your child’s key worker will also be making observations on your child, tracking their progress and looking for next steps in their development. Observations are recorded in your child's “Learning Journey”.
We would like to encourage parents to contribute to their child’s Learning Journey through observations they have made at home – this can be done through verbal feedback, photos or star moments (please see attached sheet). Learning journeys are available for parents to look at any time. If you are unsure who your child’s key worker is, please ask!
For more information about the learning that goes on at pre-school, please see the attached document “Learning and Development at South Milford Pre-School Playgroup”

Have you moved? Got a new mobile phone? Please let us know any change of details for your child’s registration form including new addresses and telephone numbers. Thank you!
Please inform us if your child will not be attending their pre-school session:

Please name all belongings: coats, bags, packed lunches.
If your child is to be picked up by someone different to usual then please write it in the Child Collection Book (on the front desk) and leave a contact telephone number.
Can we kindly remind you that we cannot allow any parents into the toilet area once pre-school is open. Please ask a member of staff if your child requires any help. This policy is to fit in line with our safeguarding arrangements.
Can we also ask that no mobile phones are used whilst dropping off/ picking up your child from pre-school.
We now have a “previous injuries” form for parents to sign if their child has any significant bumps or bruises when they come into pre-school. This form will be available on the front desk.
Just a reminder of our Health and Safety Policy: Any child that has sickness or diarrhoea must remain away from pre-school for atleast 48 hours since their last bout of illness.
Please also see our website for our other pre-school policies.
Our sessions run from 9.15 am – 11.45 am/ 11.45 – 2.15pm and lunchclubs from 11.45 – 12.45pm. For safeguarding reasons, can we please request prompt drop offs and pick ups please. Key workers are available at the end of the sessions for any updates/ information sharing, or you can book an appointment with your child’s keyworker at any time.
We have a couple of spaces available for 3 year olds in our lunchclubs on a Monday or Friday. The session runs from 11.45 – 12.45 and costs £4. Please let me know if you would like your child to attend.
Just a couple of reminders regarding pre-school lunchtimes. Can you please ensure:
Grapes and tomatoes are cut up lengthways- this is to reduce the risk of choking.I have attached “Finger Food without Fear” for parents to read.
No nuts or nut products please (including peanut butter) – we are a nut free zone!
No sweets or chocolates - we like to promote healthy eating at pre-school!
Names on packed lunches please – we often have children with identical bags/ boxes.
As you are probably aware, funding from the Government has become tighter in the Early Years sector, so we now ask for parents to support us by providing healthy snacks for the children at pre-school.
This can either be done by giving a weekly donation to snacks (we suggest 50p per morning session) or by providing us with some fruit/ salad vegetables/ bread sticks/ crackers to share, e.g. by donating a bag of apples, a cucumber, a melon etc. We are asking parents to do this on a weekly basis, and will have a tray for fruit/ salad vegetable donations on our blue table (near where the namecards are put out) and a box for any money donations. Parents do not need to prepare the snack, as we can do this with the children, and the snack will be to share with others. We had lots of support from parents last half term – and the children really enjoyed trying lots of different healthy snacks!
Pre-school will still provide milk and water at all times for the children, and we will also enhance the snack time with other foods related to what we are learning about e.g. hot cross buns at Easter; crackers at Chinese New Year.
Thank you for your support with this.
Funding/ Tax free childcare:
The Childcare Choices website is the one-stop-shop for parents to find out about all the free entitlements for two, three, and four-year-olds, and tax free childcare. Here, parents can get information, apply and communicate so they know what and when they can access.
30 hours funding:
Thank you to all the parents that managed to get their funding codes in the summer holidays! It seems the HMRC technical systems caused a few hitches but I think we all got there in the end!
Just a reminder that you will need to check your “voucher end dates” and reapply for your funding again (sorry!). I have heard that HMRC are supposed to send a reminder to parents but I am not sure if that is through the portal rather than via text/ email!
Please remember to slap that suncream on your child every morning! And don’t forget a sunhat! We will only be putting suncream on the children at lunchtime who stay for the afternoon session.
School fete: Thank you for all your support with our fundraising this year. We raised £124.90 through our Lucky Jar stall at the school fete. This will be used to add additional resources to our sand and water play area.
Bags To School
Time for a clear out? Please help us to raise money for pre-school by saving all your unwanted clothes, linen and shoes. Bags2school will be collecting from us on Monday 13th November. We will send out bags nearer the time.
Parent Helpers/ Volunteers: Would you like to help at Pre-School? We would like to welcome parents/ grandparents/ carers into pre-school either on a regular basis or as a one-off. Please just let us know if you would like to spend a morning with us! Your help is very much appreciated!
South Milford Pre-School are working with art students from Sherburn High School to produce a new mural for our outdoor area. We are hoping the mural will be ready by about October, and wondered if we have any parent volunteers that would be able to help fix the mural to the wall? Thank you!
Just a reminder to ensure any siblings are put on our waiting lists as soon as possible. We wouldn’t like any of the siblings to miss out on an opportunity at pre-school!
Newsletters and invoices will be emailed out at the beginning of every half term. If you would prefer a paper copy, then please let me know. Newsletters are also available on our website.
Term Dates: We break up for the half term holiday on Friday 20th October, and return on Monday 30th October. Further information regarding holidays, and what goes on at pre-school, can be found on our website: www.pre-school.me.uk
I have attached the Term dates for April 2017 – March 2018 and these can also be found on our website. If you would like a paper copy of these dates please let me know.
